Chabot and Consumnes River put on a show in a thrilling playoff game for all the fans in attendance, which had me thinking, “What more could you want?” The sun was out as the Bay breeze kept rolling through the outfield, and both fan bases were loud from first pitch to the final out. The game was tight all afternoon, and every inning was nail‑biting.
Consumnes River jumped ahead early with a solo homer from Tyler Cody in the second inning, then added another run on a Boyle double. The Glads punched back in the bottom half when Riley Winchell scored on an error, and Joshua Heard doubled home a run, tying things up. From there, the playoff tension grew to different heights as the Hawks put up three more in the fourth, capped by a two‑run double from Alan Quirarte‑Guzman to make it 5–2, but the Gladiators refused to step off. Jonathan Sheppard singled home a run in the fifth, then scored again on a fielder’s choice to cut it to 5–4. By the seventh, the place was buzzing, and when Winchell delivered an RBI single to tie it 5–5, the stadium erupted with cheers.
Right in that moment, it was anyone’s game. Van Loon was a huge help out of the bullpen, throwing five strong innings to keep Chabot alive. The offense kept putting pressure on, and the crowd stayed locked in throughout, hoping for that one big swing to end it. But in the 10th, Consumnes River finally broke through with a bases‑loaded walk and a sac fly to go up 7–5. Chabot had one last shot in the bottom half but could not bring a run across, and the Hawks escaped with the win.
Even with the loss, the Gladiators played their hearts out. Winchell had three hits, Sheppard scored twice and stole two bases, Boccasile added three hits, and the whole lineup battled all day. The fans were passionate, the energy was real, and the team fought until the very end. It didn’t go Chabot’s way, but the atmosphere, the effort, and the intensity made it a game worth remembering.
