Chabot Drops Road Game to Modesto, Slips to 1-5

Keshon Miller. \\ February 4, 2026.

Chabot College couldn’t overcome a rough first inning on Tuesday afternoon, falling 10–2 to Modesto Junior College on the road. The loss drops the Gladiators to 1–5 on the season, while Modesto improves to 4–1 behind a balanced offensive attack and dominant pitching.

The Pirates wasted no time taking control. Ryan Silva reached to open the first inning and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Jedediah Stange‑Tregear to make it 1–0. Modesto then strung together three straight RBI hits, Jr. Bedford singled through the left side to score Caden Reeve, Ladon Laplante followed that up with an RBI single to right, and Caleb Hendricks ended the inning with a run‑scoring single.

By the time Chabot recorded their third out, Modesto led 4–0 and held plenty of momentum.

The Glads tried to claw back in the top of the second. Jonathan Shepherd scored when Brayden Spade drew a bases-loaded walk to put Chabot on the board. Moments later, Cole Essick‑Jones drove in a second run on a fielder’s choice, cutting the deficit to 4–2. Unfortunately, those would be the only runs Chabot managed all afternoon.

Modesto pushed its lead in the third when a wild pitch allowed Stange‑Tregear to score. Another run came home on a throwing error, extending the Pirates lead to 6–2. In the sixth inning, Troy Moreau doubled to right to score Reeve, who later came home on another wild pitch. Modesto’s aggressive base running earned them five stolen bases on the day and kept Chabot’s defense under constant pressure.

Two more runs crossed in the eighth, again aided by a wild pitch, stretching the final score to 10–2.

Modesto’s bullpen shone really well, as Riley Dickey and Chase Knight combined for eight no‑hit innings with six strikeouts.

The Gladiators will look to snap their five‑game losing streak when they face Fresno City College on February 6.
