Chabot Breaks Ground On New Field

On Oct. 21, 2025, Chabot College had a “Groundbreaking” event for it’s new football and track field. As people gathered in back of Building 4000 for the ceremony, with everyone from staff to football players and even track players to celebrate this event for the school.

Dr. Jamal Cooks, President of Chabot College said, “I think that facilities are vitally important to campus culture and that with facilities, people want to come and play sports and with up to date, cutting-edge innovative sports competitive spaces. A new track in a new field would be awesome and could bring students.” The president is so excited about the new opportunities for the new field and what it would bring to Chabot. He also expressed about how game changing that this would be for the school and how it can enhance student culture and the school spirit.

There were also multiple board members that gave a speech as well as number seven for the Chabot College football team Esaia Vavao, who gave a quick welcome speech. After the ceremony, everyone moved to the site were they would go ahead and do the ground-breaking. Before that, pictures were taken of the football team and even the cheer team did a performance for the entire crowd.

Dionicia Ramos, who works for Chabot-Las Positas Community College District public relations marketing and government relations, said, “I hope that this project delivers an improved event experience for the athletes, but also for those who are coming to watch athletic events that is a more improved facility in terms of accessibility, modernization, and that it’s a real jewel for the campus and the entire community.”

The groundbreaking event marks a great step into the future of Chabot athletics and about how the district cares about their their students and players. This project will be great for the campus and will be used for the community in the near future. As of right now, the field is set to open next fall just in time for football season.
