The Colton Hall Museum is another historic landmark in Monterey, being the exact place where California became America’s thirty-first state. Inside the upstairs Museum you will find Constitutional documents signed by the conventional members along with many more historical artifacts during that time in the 1849.

For many people Monterey may be known for its Natural Beauty and Marine life, but what some don’t know is the history that the city has. One of the main attractions is the Old Fisherman’s Wharf, which has a bunch of nice shops around and great restaurants with a nice view of the water. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is another big landmark there which shows that beautiful Marine life that the city has. In the central part of Monterey there is the old Monterey Jail, which in its 100 years of use, no one has ever escaped. Inside you will see Mannequins of people from as early as the 1850s during the Gold Rush.

The City also has one of the oldest continuously operating Church in California, The San Carlos Cathedral which is also the first ever Cathedral in California. The Cathedral was founded by Father Junipero Serra and Don Gaspar de Portola in 1770, a year later it became a Royal Chapel for soldiers guarding the Spanish Presidio on Monterey. Right next door is a Museum holding Catholic relics and even having Father Serra’s chalice and cape.
