Many people may or may not know this but i’m a huge fan of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure by Hirohiko Araki which is an ongoing manga series starting it’s first part Phantom Blood on Dec 2, 1986 and is currently on it’s 9th part The JOJOLands. When i first heard that there would be two art exhibit’s featuring his artwork but one feature’s his first ever Lithograph works in his career. What makes a Lithograph so interesting is that the artist draws on a metal plate and cannot go back on a mistake. As someone who love this series and its art style going to these exhibit’s is an easy decision, The exhibit’s i am going to are The Minnesota Street Project and Museum De Young, Minnesota Street Ptoject’s exhibit is purely focused on Hirohiko Araki’s art but the De Young’s is on manga as a whole in which i will state this entire article will be mostly about JJBA (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)
I went to Museum De Young and Minnesota Street Project on 10-10-25 and to say i had fun would be an understatement although i have seen some of the art featured already and was curious on which piece’s of Hirohiko Araki made it into the exhibit and i was still pleasantly surprised to see which of his previous artworks were chosen for this exhibit as there are dozens of illustrations of his characters and i wondered what i’d see when i entered the section. I was delighted to see that every part was represented on this exhibit even the ones that aren’t officially translated in English at the moment. I was also VERY happy with the gift shop as there was so much JJBA merchandise there was poster’s, postcards and the first volume of each officially translated part minus Part 7 Steel Ball Run. there was also Gashapon’s for a bunch of anime’s mostly to those who have art featured in the exhibit,
After i had my glee with spending money i went to the totally free Minnesota Street Project which wasn’t as big as De Young but still had stellar artwork from Hirohiko Araki, As mentioned before MSP (Minnesota Street Project) has Hirohiko Araki’s first metal plate drawing’s which are amazing to see because you can see how he knows his own character’s design and knows how to include their Stands in the illustrations. The character selection was only excluding Parts 1 and 2 as those parts do not feature the iconic Stand’s the series is known for. The MSP also features artwork from the manga for each part featuring the main character of their respective Part’s even featuring the current main character Jodio Joestar.
I had an amazing time going both of these places and seeing art from amazing Manga artists but mostly Hirohiko Araki’s as he is one of my all time favorites.
